UKISA Instructor Development Programme handbook

UKISA IDP 1 and 2 handbooks are supplied in printed format only and are available to
those registering for and IDP1 or IDP2 programme only. The replacement cost is £35.
As well as including all required teaching skills, each manual also includes:
- UKISA Guide to Responsible Skating — a dedicated section covering safe conduct, etiquette, and duty of care on public and private skating surfaces
- Stretching & mobility exercises — illustrated warm-up routines including standing hamstring stretches and intermediate mobility drills, designed to be led safely in a lesson setting
- Technique components — step-by-step breakdowns of core skating skills, from beginner stopping (slowplough) to fluid movement, each with a clearly defined lesson goal
- Different learning styles — guidance on adapting instruction to visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic learners so every student can progress at their own pace
- Evidence-based learning retention — practical tips drawn from learning science, including retrieval practice and spaced repetition, to help students retain skills between sessions
- Up-to-date safeguarding — a full safeguarding section covering welfare responsibilities, appropriate boundaries, and the correct procedure for reporting concerns
- Structured lesson planning — a consistent framework for building beginner and intermediate sessions, with warm-up, skill focus, and cool-down phases built in
